Last night the 21st November the women and men of Mariannridge came together in a symbolic moment to register their contribution to the fight against Gender Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Responding to the call for a National Shut Down as the G20 meets in our country.
Gender Based Violence and Femicide is a national crisis and we want to raise our voices in calling for an end to the violence, rape, killing of women and children in our society.
In a solemn moment of prayer for strength and courage to STAND UP we bowed our heads before God pleading His mercy and grace and intervention.
A moment of silence was observed for the ones who have gone before us and in whose honour we come together saying ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. It was surreal as names of loved ones who lost the fight to GBVF were brought into the circle of light.
A word of encouragement from one of our sisters for women to lead the fight for an end to this pandemic and a word of hope from a local pastor, especially acknowledging the men who showed up and calling for more effort in raising young men who can love and respect girls and women.
Thank you to everyone who came out last night.
SILENCE NO MORE.
MCC apologies for the dysfunction of the air balloons we know everyone was looking forward to that moment. We appreciate your understanding and all impromptu variations of the evening.
YOU STRIKE A WOMEN, YOU STRIKE A ROCK
